Tech Industry Contributes $16.2B To Connecticut Economy

Connecticut’s technology industry contributed $16.2 billion to the state’s economy in 2017, a share equal to 6.5 percent, the national Computing Technology Industry Association.

That economic impact is the 22nd largest in the country according to the association’s annual industry report. Published Tuesday, the analysis and rankings are based on data from the U.S. Department of Commerce and other sources.

Connecticut also ranked 25th in net technology employment, and 15th in the share of tech workers in the workforce.

Last year, Connecticut’s 6,700 technology businesses employed 140,600 workers, or about 7.6 percent of the state’s workforce, the association said.

The state’s growth trailed many others last year. Tech jobs increased by just 0.7 percent in Connecticut, compared to 1.7 percent nationally.
