With the leaves turning, Connecticut’s economic development director on Wednesday touted the start of the autumn tourism season as one way to pump up Connecticut’s slow-growth economy.
In a speech to the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, Catherine Smith, head of the Department of Economic and Community Development, touted the tourism industry.
“Mostly what we’re focused on is getting those New Yorkers who need a place to go for the weekend to come out here and look at our leaves,” she told an audience of about 100 business owners and others. “We’re a lot closer than Vermont, so why not come to Connecticut?”
