An apt name for the next Columbia-class submarine

U.S. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro announced Monday the third Columbia-class ballistic-missile submarine will be named for Groton, home of the Naval Submarine Base and Electric Boat, where portions of the 12-ship class' first two submarines are under construction.

Congress has yet to authorize or appropriate funding for the class' third boat.

Connecticut’s senators, Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, and Rep. Joe Courtney, whose 2nd District encompasses the base and the shipyard, promptly issued statements hailing the USS Groton's apt naming.
