Groton to allow multi-unit residential developments in mixed-use industrial zone

Multi-unit residential developments and active senior housing soon will be allowed in the town's mixed-use industrial zone, amid demand for housing in the area.
The zone is located between Route 117, Flanders Road, and the north part of Noank Ledyard Road, and is split by Interstate 95.
The Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved changing the regulations for the Industrial, Mixed-Use (IM) District to allow multi-unit residential developments, subject to conditions, and to allow multi-unit residential conversions and active senior housing communities, subject to conditions and a special permit.
