Doncasters Precision Casting announced last week that it has completed a $13 million expansion off Poquonnock Road driven by high demand for its airplane-component line.
The 17,000-square-foot expansion, which involves fully automating its shell line that produces metal parts using a mold made from resin-coated sand, is considered a major milestone for the company. It replaces a 1980s-era shell system that had limited capacity and frequent downtime because of its reliance on manual operation.
“Our new fully automated shell system isn’t just a machinery upgrade — it’s a strategic leap forward,” said Mike Looney, general manager at Doncasters Groton, in a release.
