The town is introducing a new study to help solve its growing housing shortage.
Meeting in the Middle: Unlocked Housing Opportunities in Groton is a federally funded project with a goal of increasing housing stock to meet the needs of a changing population and projected job growth from Electric Boat.
On Thursday, the town introduced the project to the community at a public meeting held at the Thrive 55 + Active Learning Center. The yearlong study is funded by a $350,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation and was used to hire a team of consultants, including project leader Horsley Witten Group, a Providence-based environmental consulting firm. Other consultants are Camoin Associates, Kronberg Urbanists Architects and the Barrett Planning Group.
