There is no typical day in Sue Austin’s universe.
As Groton schools’ superintendent, some days include a round robin of visits to the district’s seven schools, meetings with principals or the Board of Education, checking out the high school robotics team’s newest project, or visiting special needs students at Transitional Academy.
Austin oversees a district with over 4,000 students from pre-K to 12th grade, which includes five magnet elementary schools and a little over 400 teachers.
Austin’s personal and professional history in many ways connects with Groton’s fabric — a town recognized for its regional military economy and home to General Dynamics Electric Boat, one of the world’s largest submarine builders.
